Albert was born in 1887 in Leicester and baptised on 26.11.1888 at St. Luke’s Church. His parents were Joseph Pratt, a stockiner in the hosiery trade and Elizabeth (nee Wolhuter, a South African). They had 8 children-

In 1891 census the family lived at 1 Court A. 4 Goodacre Street, Leicester.
In 1901 census they were at 35 Merrydale Road and Albert, aged 13, was a shoe hand.
In 1904 Albert Joined the Leicestershire Regiment Militia, aged 17, from 35 Norton Road and he was previously a shoe hand.
In 1905 He signed a short service attestation, aged 18.
In 1911 census the family are at 70 Victoria Road East and Albert is out of the army working as a shoe tacker.
1911 Albert married Emily Florence Fowler and they moved in with her parents at 43 Elm Street. They had 3 children –

Albert became Private 3463 6th Battalion Seaforth Highlanders. He Died of Wounds, aged 30, on 7.1.1917 and is buried at Etaples Military Cemetery, Calais, France (Xxi.A.13).
