Alfred was born in 1897 in Leicester to George Atkins, a boot maker, and Sarah Jane (nee Siddall). Sarah had married Frederick Siddall in 1887 and they had 4 children –

Eveline 1894
Frederick died in 1896 and in 1897 Sarah married her second husband, George Atkins. They had 2 children –
Alfred 1897
Frank 1903

In 1901 census the family lived at 50 Porter St. and by 1911 census they had moved to 42 Grove Rd.

Alfred became Rifleman 372019 8th Battalion London Regiment. He was Killed in Action on 21.5.1916, aged 18, and is buried in Cement House Cemetery, Langemarck, Belgium
