Arthur John Herrick
Arthur was born in 1894 in Blaby and baptised on 1.7.1894 at St. Peter’s Church, Whetstone. His parents were John Herrick, Farmer and butcher, and Lucy (nee Smith).

In 1901 census the family lived in Main St, Whetstsone and in 1911 census they had moved to Leicester Rd, Blaby where Arthur is listed as an assistant butcher in the family business.
Arthur became Lance Corporal 2368 in Leicestershire Yeomanry. He went to France on 16.2.1915 and was Killed in Action on 13.5.1915 aged 21. He is commemorated on the Menin Gate, Ypres, Belgium.
He is also commemorated at All Saints Church, Blaby, St. Peter’s Churchyard Memorial, Whetstone and the Whetstone village memorial.
