Arthur was born in 1888 in Leicester and baptised on 27.3.1890 at St. Barnabas Church. His parents were Richard Porter, a bricklayers labourer and Ann (nee Wain).
They had 10 children-

In 1891 census the family lived on Bridge Road, Leicester. In 1901 census they are at 74 Bridge Road.
There is no 1911 census for the family.

In 1916 Arthur married Florence Ellen Sherrif at St Leonard’s Church.
He was a member of the Sanvey Gate Adult School. Arthur enlisted, from 41 Marshall Street, as Private 31538
Leicestershire Regiment then became Private 9974 Labour Corps. He
Died of Wounds on 27.9.1917 and is buried at Dozinghem Military Cemetery, Belgium. He is also on the St. Stephen’s Church Memorial.

At the time of his death his parents were living at125 Green Lane Rd., and his widow was still at 41 Marshall Street.
