Arthur was born in 1890 in Leicester to Joseph Wilford, a boot manufacturer, and Elizabeth (nee Hubbard).

In 1891 census the family lived at 112 Curzon St., Leicester. In 1901 census they were at 236 Syston Street.
There is no 1911 census for the family but we know Arthur was already in the army. He enlisted from 119 Moira Street, aged 19, and became Private 1265 1/4th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment. He was Killed In Action on 13.10.1915, aged 25 and is on the Loos Memorial, France. His family were living at 22 Bakewell St.
