School records give his date of birth as 15th July 1898 and he left Granby Road school on 12th July 1912 aged 14. Son of Ellen Butler, of 26, Vernon Rd., Aylestone Park, Leicester, and the late Henry Butler. His parents Henry Butler & Ellen Brown were married in Stafford in 1896.

 

I believe Alfred’s father Henry, died when he was young

As had the wife of Charles Roberts

(Deaths: Mar 1902  Roberts  Amy  42  Leicester  7a 184)

Ellen Butler married Charles Roberts in 1917 but they are living as man & wife in 1911
