Douglas was born in 1896 in Leicester to Walter Henry Jackson, a carrier, and Ellen (nee Gulliver).

In 1901 census the family lived at 58 Victoria Rd. North but Douglas is not on the list.
In 1902, when Douglas was 6, his mother, Ellen, died.
Later the same year Walter married his second wife Agnes Mary (nee Keighton). They had 4 children –

In 1911 census the family lived at 28 Wood Hill and Douglas is listed as a clicker at the shoe factory.
Douglas first joined the Notts. And Derby Regiment then later transferred as Private 29567 14th Battalion Highland Light Infantry. He died of wounds on 26.11.1917 and is buried at Rocquigny Equancourt Road British Cemetery, Manancourt, France.
He is also on the St. Stephen’s Church Memorial.
