Edward was born in 1886 in Leicester to John Samuel Barsby, a shoe worker and Ellen (neeAnstys). They had 8 children –

In 1891 census the family lived at 49 Occupation Rd, Leicester.
In 1901 census they were at 94 Charnwood St. and Edward worked as a shoe finisher.
In 1903 Edward married Ellen Marriott and had 5 children-

In 1911 census Edward lived at 130 Birstall St. and worked as a boot finisher.

Edward enlisted as Private 17234 2nd Battalion Leicestershire Regiment and entered the theatre of war on 4.10.15
He was Killed in Action on 7.1.1916, aged 30, in Mesopotamia and is on the Basra Memorial Panel 12.
