Ernest was born in 1884 in Leicester but I have no in formation about his family.
He first enlisted, aged 18, on 13.5.1902 as Private 8171 3rd Leicestershire Regiment.
In 1906 he married Marion Winker and they had 2 children –

Joseph William 1911
In 1911 census Ernest is listed as a bricklayers labourer and the family lived at 9 Merridale Road.
Ernest rejoined the army as Private 6376 2nd Battalion Leicestershire Regiment and was Killed in Action on 6.2.1915. He is buried in Le Touret Military Cemetery.
