Ernest was born in 1888 in Leicester to John Joseph Griffin, a shoe shop man and Mary Ann (nee Porter). They had 7 children –

In 1891 census the family lived at 34 Upper Kent Street. In 1901 census they were at the same address.
1902 John died aged 50.
In 1911 census the family were at the same address and Ernest was a tailors cutter.
In 1915 Ernest married Clara Carver. There are no children I know of.
Ernest became Corporal 11065, 2nd Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers. He was Killed in Action on 29.4.1918 and is on the ‘fyne Cot Memeorial, Belgium.
