Ernest was born in 1892 in Leicester to William Webster, a carpenter and Alice (nee Porter).

In 1901 census the family lived at 87 Asfordby Street.
In 1911 census they lived at 14 Spinney Hill Road and Ernest, aged 18, was a house painter.
1914 Ernest married Agnes Minnie Tomkin-no children known.
Ernest became Private 28046, 9th Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment and was Killed in Action, aged 24, on 25.9.1916. He is on the Thiepval Memorial (Pier and Face 2C and 3A).
At the time of his death his parents were living at 91 Maynard Road and his widow at 38 Hart Road.
