Harold was born in Leicester in 1897 to Charles Wood, a shoe pressman, and Florence Emma Wood (nee Stanyon).

In 1901 census the family lived at 11 Worthington St., Leicester and in 1911 census they had moved to 82 Clipstone St.
Harold became Lance Corporal 22244 11th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment and Died of Wounds on 13.8.1916. He is buried at Doullens Communal Cemetery, Extension 1, France. He is also commemorated at St. Peter’s Church, Leicester.
