Harry was born in 1895 in Leicester to Harry Benjamin Allen, a railway goods checker, and Charlotte (nee Bowns). He was one of eleven children –

In the 1901 census the family lived at 214 Green Lane Rd., Leicester and in the 1911 census they were at 53 Shenton St.
Harry was Lance Corporal 14451 in the 9th Leicestershire Regiment and later became Lance Corporal 36295 in the 7th Leicestershire Regiment.
He died of his wounds on 28.3.1918, aged 23, when his regiment was at Heilly in support of the 3rd Australian Division but we do not know when he was wounded.
He is buried at Le Cateau Military Cemetery in France. Grave ref:V.A.6
