Herbert Lawrence East
Herbert was born in 1885 in Leicester and baptised on 6.9.1885 at St. Luke’s Church. His parents were John East (an Australian house painter) and Sarah Jane (nee Lawrence). He was one of 7 children I know of-

I imagine that today they would have hyphenated the surnames Lawrence and East.
In 1891 census the family lived at 23 Frederick Rd., Leicester. In 1898 mother, Sarah, died.
In 1901 census John was a widower living at 29 Thomas St. with his family.
1909 John East died.
In 1911 census Herbert was living with his brother, John, and his family at 95 Rolleston St.
Later that same year he married Alice Maud Turner and in 1914 they had a daughter, Phyllis E. L. East.
Herbert became Sapper 159523, 432 Nd Field Company, Royal Engineers. He Died of Wounds on 15.6.1918 and is buried in Hamburg Cemetery, Ohlsdorf, Germany.
