In 1901 census the family lived at 7 Cecil Rd., Cecil Gardens, Leic. In 1910 Mother, Caroline, died.
In 1911 they lived at 9 Clipstone St and Herbert is listed as a boot trade inker.
He enlisted on 7.9.1914, aged 20, described as a shoehand from 37 Curzon St.
On 9.9.1914 he was posted as Private 2247413th Hussars.
On 17.10.1914 he was transferred as Private 14421 8th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment.
He embarked overseas on 9.9.1915, was Killed in Action on 4.7.1916 and is commemorated on Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
