Herbert enlisted as Private 39641 South Staffordshire Regiment. He then became Private 42275 1st Battalion Hertfordshire Regiment and was Killed in Action, aged 27, on 18.9.1918. He is on the Vis-En-Artois Memorial, France and and also St. Peter’s Church, Leicester.
