James was born in 1878 in Leicester to James Preston Moore, a painter, and his second wife, Sarah Ann Brown. James Preston Moore Married Hannah Renals in 1862 at St Mary De Castro, Leicester.

Hannah died in 1875, maybe as a result of childbirth.
1876 James married Sarah Ann Brown at St. Nicholas Church.

In 1881 census the family lived at 8 Talbot Lane and later that year James Preston Moore died aged 47.
In 1891 census the family lived in Poplar Ave. and James Henry was a boot clickers apprentice, aged 12.

In 1901 census the family were at 33 Vaughan St. and his mother, Sarah ,was living with them.In 1911 census they were living at 59 Mount Rd., Leicester. James was a Timber yard labourer.
James became Lance Sergeant 15516 9th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment and Died of Wounds on 15.7.1916. He is buried at Heilly Station Cemetery, Mericourt-L’ Abbe, France.
