George and Joseph were born in 1894 and 1892 respectively to Thomas Brewin, a shoe finisher, and Louisa (nee Boswell). They had 8 children –

In 1901 census the family lived at 57 Eastbourne Road, Leicester.
In 1911 census they were at 51 Frank Street. George was working as a shoe hand and Joseph had already joined the army as Private 9065 with the 1st Leicestershire Regiment and was in Aldershot.

Joseph later became Private 10531 Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers and was Killed In Action on 4.6.1915. He is buried at Twelve Tree Copse Cemetery, Helles, Gallipoli, Turkey.

George joined the Royal Naval Reserve and became Able Seaman, Hawke Battalion, Mudros. His service number was ‘Iyneside 2/5416. George Died as a direct result of enemy action on 13.11.1916, aged 21. He is on the Thiepval Memorial (MR 21), France.
