Oliver was born in Leicester in 1896 to William Davies (boot and shoe maker) and Elizabeth Ann (nee Jeacock). He was one of 18 children – Hannah Elizabeth 1876

In 1911 census they lived at 29 Osborne Rd. William had risen to manager in the factory and Oliver was a tailors assistant.
Oliver became Driver 141395, 85th Field Company, Royal Engineers. He Died of Wounds on 2.12.1917 and is buried in Ramleh War Cemetery, Israel. He is also commemorated at St. Stephen’s Church, Leicester.
