Robert was born in 1888 to Robert Orson, a framework knitter, and Sarah Ann (nee Barnard).

In 1891 census the family lived at 64 Denman St., Leicester. 1896 Father, Robert, Died aged 37.
In 1901 census Robert and his widowed mother were living with her widower brother, John, and his children at 119 Sherard St. Robert, aged 13, was a shoe laster.
1908 Robert married Lucy Johnson and went on to have 4 children-

In 1911 census Robert and Lucy were living at 55 Checketts Rd. and Robert was an engineers labourer at the shoe factory.
Robert enlisted, aged 29, from 4 Carlton Cottages, Frank St. and became Private 33503 7th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment. He Died of Wounds, aged 31, on 20.4.1918 and he is buried at Bandaghem Military Cemetery, Haringhe, Belgium.
