Sidney was born in 1897 in Leicester to Edwin Albert Jarvis, a shoe hand, and Jane (nee Dakin).

In 1901 census the family lived at 32 Farringdon St. and in 1911 census they were at the same address where Sidney is listed as an errand boy aged 15.
Sidney became Private 3315 114th Leicestershire Regiment and went to France on 30.6.1915. He was Killed in Action, aged 18, on 13.10.1915. He is on the Loos Memorial (panel 42-44), France.
