Sidney was born in 1897 in Leicester to William Cook Norton, a boot maker, and Harriet (nee Kibbler).

In 1901 census the family lived at 85 Moira St, Leicester.
In 1911 census they were at 107 Westbourne St. and William had become an agent for a clothing company. Sidney, aged 14, was a chemist’s erand boy.
Sidney joined the army as Private 3/18079 Leicestershire Regiment the became Private 201382 ¼ Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment. He Died of Wounds, aged 20, on 4.11.1917 and is buried at Deir El Belah War Cemetery, Israel.
