Thomas was born in 1896 in Leicester to William Clarke, a hosiery trade trimmer, and Fanny (nee Flowers). They had 8 children–Elizabeth 1889

In1901 census the family lived at 22 Porter Street, Leicester.
In 1911 census they had moved to 30 Elm Street and Thomas was a printer.
Thomas became Private 200568 114th Leicestershire Regiment. He died of Pneumonia, aged 22, on 10.7.1918 and is buried in Pernes British Cemetery, France.
