Thomas was born in 1894 in Leicester to John Dunn, a railway checker and Sarah Jane (nee Smith). He was the youngest of 5 children –

In 1901 census the family lived at 176 Mount Rd., Leicester and in 1911 they were at 10 Mere Rd.

In 1914 Thomas married Eunice Hurst in Leicester and in 1915 they had a daughter, Ethel M.

Thomas enlisted in the Leicestershire Reg, giving his address as 26 Edwyn St, and became Rifleman B/200008 in the Rifle Brigade. He Died of Wounds, aged 24, on 21.7.1918 and is buried at Pernes British Cemetery, France.
