Walter was born in 1886 in St. Neots, Huntingdon to Henry Hook and his wife, Eleanor. Henry had previously been an Army Sergeant in India where he married Eleanor who was born there.

They had 7 children I know of –

all born in India.

In 1891 census the family lived in Back Lane, St. Neots and Henry was a coachman.
In 1901 census they had moved to Priory Lane, St. Neots.
In 1911 census the family were at 7 Vulcan Rd, Leicester and Henry was an Army Pensioner.
Walter was at Fyzabad Oudh overseas military India. No.8 ammunition Column RFA.

During the war Walter was 34855 Quarter Master Sergeant Royal Field Artillery. He died at home on 20.2.1915, aged 29, and is buried at Cardiff Cemetery, Glamorganshire, Wales. There was a Military Hospital, 3rd Western General Hospital, Cardiff renowned for the treatment of shell shock.
