William was born in 1895 in Leicester and baptised on 3.3.1895 at St. Paul’s Church. His parents were William Clark, a shoe trade clicker, and Alice (nee Annable). They had 4 children –

In 1901 census the family lived at 173 Syston St., Leicester and in 1911 census they had moved to 24 Tewkesbury St. where the young William is listed as a shoe trade clicker the same as his father.
William became Private 201876 214th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment and was Killed in Action on 26.9.1917. He is on the Tyne Cot Memorial (panel 50-51), Zonnebeke, Belgium.
