William was born in 1897 to William Henry Hurst, a shoe hand, and Phoebe (nee Knibbs) who married at St. Saviour’s church.

William became Private 215841 8th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment and was Killed in Action on 1.5.1918 aged 21. He is buried at Fouquieres Churchyard Extension, France.
