William was born in 1899 in Leicester to Alfred Langton, a bricklayer and Jane (nee Stuttley).

In 1901 census Jane, William and Gladys were living with Jane’s aunt and uncle at 87 Gresham Street and there is no record for Alfred.
In 1911 census the family lived at 138 Bardolph Street.
William enlisted as Private 37149 Leicestershire Regiment then became Private 55389 1st Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers. He was Killed in Action, aged 19, on 23.8.1918 and is buried at Railway Cutting Cemetery, Courcelles-Le-Comte, France.
