William was born in 1878 in Moulton, Northants, to Joseph Mobbs, a labourer, and Elizabeth Ann (nee York).

In 1881 census the family lived in Moulton, Northants. Later that year Elizabeth died, aged 33, possibly due to childbirth. William was 3 years of age.
In 1882 Joseph married Mary Ann Tanner.
They had 3 children-

In 1891 census the family lived at 61 Cloutham St., Northants and William was an erand boy.
1895 Mary Ann died aged 42.
1899 William married Flora Randall and they went on to have 6 children –

In 1901 census William and Flora lived at 15 Monk’s Park Rd. and William was a bricklayer.
In 1911 census William and his family had moved to Leicester and were living at 315 Abbey Lane.
He is buried at Welford Rd Cemetery (Uo1.292.Wm.26.1) and also on St Peter’s Church Memorial.
