Edward And William Harry Walker

The Walker brothers were born in Leicester to William, a boot and shoe worker and Minnie (nee Joy).
They had 8 children-

Edward was born on 25.8.1891 and was baptised on 23.10.1891 at St Luke’s Church Leicester.
William Harry was born on 31.1.1894 and was baptised on 25.2.1894
at St. Leonard’s Church Leicester.

In 1901 census the family lived at Warmond’s Hill in Higham Ferrers, Northamptonshire.
In 1904 Minnie died in Leicester so the family must have moved back to Leicester between 1901 and 1904.
In 1911 census William senior is listed as a widower living at 36 Oak St., Leicester, a boot machinist. All the children are stil! living with him and Edward and William are both listed as boot and shoe workers.

Edward joined the Leicestershire Regiment as Private 21487 but then became Private 9493 55th Machine Gun Corps. He was Killed In Action on 10.8.1917, aged 26, and is on the Menin Gate Memorial, panel 56.

William joined the army as Private 30484 18th Battalion Notts. And Derby Regiment but then became Corporal 63088 2nd West Yorkshire Regiment. He was Killed In Action on 17.8.1918, aged 24, and is buried at La Targette British Cemetery, Neuville-St. Vaast, 111.13.2.
